Ju 87G

The Ju 87 Stuka is another Germany aircraft that has seeming endless amounts of information available about it so I'm not going to dwell on its developmental history here. The G series came about during 1942 when it became increasingly obvious of the inadequacy of bombs against tanks. The G was actually a conversion of the D-5 model to carry a pair of 37 mm cannon which together with their magazines were slung beneath the wing immediately outboard of the main undercarriage members and could be detached and replaced with bomb racks if no tank targets were available. The first units that were formed when these first became available in 1943 were so successful that many more were added.
